Georgetown University graduate student Badar Khan Suri encountered U.S. immigration detention, which raises uncertainties about academic freedom and student visa regulations. Suri received arrest from Homeland Security agents at his Virginia residence while he was outside his home on Monday evening. Hassan Ahmad, the attorney, expressed his explicit disapproval by calling the arrest beyond the borders of reasonable conduct.

The DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that Suri had been arrested for circulating Hamas propaganda alongside antisemitic content through social media platforms. The agency reported evidence about his connection to a senior advisor from Hamas. Who Is Badar Khan Suri?

Walsh School of Foreign Service. He earned his Peace and Conflict Studies Ph.D. from Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi in 2020.
