Ukraine is prepared to accept the US’s proposal for an immediate 30-day truce with Russia.
Following a day of US-Ukraine negotiations in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine has stated that it is prepared to accept the US’s proposal for an immediate 30-day truce with Russia. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “the ball is in their court” and he would make the offer to Russia.
According to Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky, the US must persuade Russia to accept the “positive” plan.
On Tuesday, Jeddah hosted the first formal meeting between the two nations since the remarkable confrontation between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on February 28. The United States also stated that it would immediately resume security assistance and intelligence cooperation with Ukraine, which Washington had halted following the historic White House dispute.
“Both delegations agreed to name their negotiating teams and immediately begin negotiations toward an enduring peace that provides for Ukraine’s long-term security,” the United States and Ukraine stated. Rubio expressed his hope that Russia will embrace the idea at a press appearance in Jeddah late Tuesday.
He declared that Ukraine was “ready to stop shooting and start talking” and that “we’ll unfortunately know what the impediment is to peace here” if Russia turned down the offer.
“Today we made an offer that the Ukrainians have accepted, which is to enter into a ceasefire and immediate negotiations,” he stated.
We will now present this offer to the Russians, hoping they will accept peace. Now it’s their turn,” he continued.

Ukraine is ready to accept the US plan for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.
In addition to Zelensky’s suggestion of a partial truce in the air and at sea, a 30-day ceasefire is offered. The Ukrainian president commended Trump for “the constructiveness” of the Jeddah negotiations. In a video message, Zelensky stated that Russia must “show its willingness to stop the war or continue it.”
His words, “It is time for the full truth,” went on.
The Kremlin has yet to state to the public.
Earlier Tuesday, it indicated it will release a statement following a briefing by Washington on the results of the negotiations.
However, Kostantin Kosachev, a prominent Russian senator, stated that any such accords would be “on our terms, not American”. At the White House, Trump told reporters he would speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he “hopes ” will agree to the proposal.

“It takes two to tango, as they say,” Trump said, hoping the deal would be struck in the coming days. We have a big meeting with Russia tomorrow, and hopefully, some great conversations will ensue. “He went on to say that he was amenable to Zelensky returning to Washington.
According to Tass, the state-run news agency, Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for Russia’s foreign ministry, has not ruled out speaking with US officials in the days ahead.
Regarding whether Trump and Zelensky’s relationship was “back on track,” Rubio said he was hopeful that “peace” was the key when asked by a reporter.
“This is not Mean Girls, this is not some television show episode,” he stated.
“Today people will die in this war, they died yesterday and – sadly – unless there’s a ceasefire, they will die tomorrow.”
Following overnight drone attacks that killed at least three people in the vicinity of Moscow, which Russia claimed demonstrated Ukraine’s rejection of using diplomacy to end the war, the US and Ukrainian delegations met. Additionally, the joint statement stated that Trump and Zelensky had agreed to complete a crucial minerals deal “as soon as possible”.
The White House dispute ruined Ukraine’s promise to provide the US access to its rare earth mineral reserves in return for US security assurances. According to Rubio, the agreement was negotiated with the US and Ukrainian treasuries and was not discussed at Tuesday’s discussions.
US national security advisor Mike Waltz and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff were also part of the US team in Jeddah.
According to a source who knows the arrangements, Witkoff is scheduled to visit Russia in the next few days, but the BBC reported that this might suddenly alter. The joint US-Ukraine statement said Kyiv had “reiterated” that any peace process should incorporate Europe.
Due to America’s shifting position on the war, including keeping Europe out of negotiations, European leaders have convened several emergency meetings in recent weeks.
President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen said the union applauded Tuesday’s “positive development. “Ending the fighting in Ukraine as soon as possible has been one of the US president’s top priorities. He has pressured Zelensky to accept a ceasefire without giving the Ukrainian president the immediate security guarantees he requested.

On Friday, Trump threatened further sanctions against Moscow to strike an accord.
The United States has already imposed severe sanctions on Russia for the war.
Trump claimed that “Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now” was the reason he was considering the action.
On the ground, the conflict persisted on Tuesday.
It was said to be the biggest drone strike on the Russian capital since the beginning of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, killing three men in the Moscow area.
According to health professionals who spoke to Russian media, another 18 individuals were hurt, including three children.
According to the Russian defense ministry, 91 drones were shot down over the Moscow area, while 337 drones were intercepted over Russia.
